Privacy Policy — Exploding Whale
Last updated:
This privacy policy explains how Exploding Whale — a real-time, same-room multiplayer party game — handles your information. It applies to the Exploding Whale mobile app (Android, with iOS planned). Exploding Whale has no accounts and keeps no durable user database.
What we collect to run the game
- No accounts, no sign-up, no login. We don’t ask for your real name, email, phone number, or contacts, and we keep no lasting user database.
- A nickname you type. It’s shown to the others in your room, held in the game server’s memory only for that session, and discarded when the room empties. It is never written to durable storage.
- Gameplay and connection data. Your control actions and taps are sent over an encrypted connection (WSS) to run the live session. Your IP address is an inherent part of any internet connection and is used only to route that session — it is not used to profile you, and it isn’t retained after the session ends.
Microphone (optional, opt-in)
Some rounds ask your crew to “scream” or “stay quiet.” If — and only if — you grant microphone permission:
- Loudness is measured entirely on your device.
- Audio is never recorded, stored, or transmitted. Only a simple “loud enough / quiet enough” signal — the equivalent of a button press — is sent to the game. No sound ever leaves your device.
You can decline the microphone prompt and still play; those rounds just use a manual control instead.
Advertising
The app is free and ad-supported, showing a single banner ad through Google AdMob.
- To serve and measure that ad, Google’s SDK may collect a mobile advertising
identifier, coarse / IP-based location, device information, and ad-interaction
data. On Android, the app declares the
AD_IDpermission for this. - In the EEA, UK, and Switzerland, you’ll see a Google UMP consent prompt; on iOS, Apple’s App Tracking Transparency (ATT) prompt. If you decline, you’ll get non-personalized ads.
- You can reset or limit your advertising ID in your device settings. AdMob is a Google service, governed by Google’s Privacy Policy.
On-device storage
The game stores only your accessibility preferences and mute setting on your device. This is not personal data and is never transmitted to us.
No analytics or tracking
Exploding Whale uses no third-party analytics or tracking SDKs — no Firebase, Google Analytics, Sentry, or similar. The only third-party data collection is the AdMob banner ad, described above.
What we don’t collect
We do not collect your real name, email, phone number, contacts, photos, precise (GPS) location, or any health or financial data.
Children
Exploding Whale is not directed to children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your country), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.
Your privacy rights (EEA, UK, Switzerland, California, and elsewhere)
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access or delete your personal data and to object to certain processing. Because we keep no accounts and no durable data, there is generally nothing for us to hold — the main identifier in play is the advertising ID, which you control from your device (and via the UMP / ATT prompts). You can always contact us with a request and we’ll help.
Data collection summary
A short summary aligned with the App Store / Google Play data-safety disclosures:
| Category | What applies |
|---|---|
| Personal info (name, email, etc.) | None — no accounts. A session-only nickname you type (held in memory, never persisted). |
| Identifiers | Advertising ID — collected and shared with Google by the AdMob SDK to serve and measure the banner ad. |
| Location | Approximate, IP-based only, used by AdMob for ads. No GPS / precise location. |
| App activity | Ad interactions may be collected by AdMob. In-game actions run the live session and aren’t retained. |
| Audio / microphone | Not collected. Loudness is analysed on-device; audio is never recorded, stored, or transmitted. |
| Contacts / messages / photos | None. |
| Tracking across apps | For advertising only, and only with your consent via the UMP (EEA/UK/CH) or ATT (iOS) prompt. |
| Data sold to third parties | We don’t sell your data. Personalized advertising may count as “sharing” under laws such as CCPA / CPRA — decline it via the consent prompt or your device ad settings. |
| Data encrypted in transit | Yes (HTTPS / WSS). |
| Network access required | Yes — it’s an online, real-time game (and to load the ad). |
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we’ll update the “Last updated” date above and, where appropriate, note the change in the game.
