How to play
Exploding Whale is a co-op party game for a group in the same room (inspired by Spaceteam). A beached whale is filling with gas, and your crew has to vent it before it explodes:
- Everyone grabs a device and joins the same room — just pick a nickname, no account needed.
- Orders appear on your screen, but the controls are on someone else’s. So you shout: call out your commands and race to operate what others call out to you.
- Beat the timer to vent the whale. The control labels use real words from many languages, which is half the fun (and chaos).
Frequently asked questions
Do I need an account?
No. There’s no sign-up — everyone just picks a nickname to join a room. Nicknames aren’t kept after the session.
Do I need an internet connection?
Yes. It’s a real-time game, so every player needs a connection to the shared room.
Why does it ask for my microphone?
Only for the optional “scream” / “stay quiet” rounds. If you allow it, your device measures loudness on-device only — the audio is never recorded, stored, or sent anywhere; the game just gets a “loud/quiet enough” signal. You can decline and still play.
Is it free?
Yes. Exploding Whale is free, with a single banner ad (Google AdMob) and no in-app purchases.
Do you collect my data?
There are no accounts and no durable database — your nickname and gameplay exist only for the live session. Google AdMob uses a device advertising ID to show its banner ad (you can decline personalized ads via the consent or ATT prompt, or reset the ID in your device settings). See the privacy policy for the full detail.
